HVAC and Piping Quantities: Equipment Tags and Distribution Runs

Duct LF and SF, pipe LF and fittings, RTUs and VAV boxes from mechanical schedules, insulation, and hydronic distribution. FastDUCT and FastWRAP production. HVAC and piping trade scope only.

Mechanical estimator reviewing HVAC duct layouts and piping risers

HVAC and piping bids split into two layers: tagged equipment on mechanical schedules and distribution on plan sheets. RTUs, VAV boxes, boilers, and pumps carry tag numbers on schedules. Duct LF and SF, pipe runs, fittings, and insulation spread across drawings. Sky Estimates counts both for mechanical contractors before buy-out.

Supply and return duct quantify in LF and SF through FastDUCT. Hydronic and process pipe quantify in LF with fitting EA counts. Insulation on duct and pipe pulls from spec sections through FastWRAP where applicable. Equipment quantities come directly from mechanical schedules.

Core and shell, tenant improvements, and industrial facilities need takeoffs that separate air-side distribution from water-side piping and equipment so fab shops, insulators, and equipment vendors price the same scope shown on plan.

Equipment Tags From Schedules, Distribution From Plans

Equipment takeoffs count tagged items from mechanical schedules: RTUs, AHUs, VAV boxes, fan coil units, boilers, chillers, pumps, and heat exchangers with model references where shown. Distribution takeoffs measure duct LF and SF by size and system, pipe LF by material and diameter, and fittings EA by type on plan sheets.

Insulation on duct, pipe, and equipment sits in its own line group so thermal and acoustic requirements from spec sections do not get buried inside raw duct or pipe counts.

Mechanical contractors, general contractors, and design-build firms receive takeoffs structured for sub buy-out, vendor quotes, and owner submission in your template format.

Hydronic, Steam, and Process Piping by System

Hydronic distribution includes supply and return pipe LF, valve EA counts, strainers, expansion tanks, and specialty fittings on risers and plans. Steam and process piping follow the same approach with material and pressure class noted per line.

Estimators cross-check pipe sizes on plans against schedules, verify insulation thickness from spec sections, and flag routing conflicts before quantities finalize.

What Sets Sky Estimates Mechanical Work Apart

Equipment Tags Matched to Schedules

RTUs, VAV boxes, AHUs, and pumps count from mechanical equipment schedules with tag numbers on takeoff sheets so buy-out matches the specified gear.

FastDUCT and FastWRAP Production

Duct LF and SF takeoffs run in FastDUCT. Pipe and insulation quantities use FastWRAP where applicable. Marked plans and Excel exports follow your estimating structure.

Distribution Separated From Equipment

Duct, pipe, fittings, and insulation stay isolated from equipment line items so fab shops, insulators, and equipment vendors receive scope sheets aligned to how they quote.

Marked Plans for Field and Buy-Out Review

Color-coded markup layers show duct runs, pipe routes, and equipment locations so your team and subs audit counts against the same drawing revision.

FAQs

Equipment counts from mechanical schedules: RTUs, VAV boxes, AHUs, pumps, boilers, and chillers with tag numbers and model references. Distribution measures from plans: duct LF and SF, pipe LF, fittings EA, grilles, dampers, and insulation. Deliverables separate the two so equipment vendors and fab shops receive the correct scope sheet.

Both, depending on how you buy and fabricate. Rectangular and round duct typically measure in LF by size with SF calculated for insulation and liner scope. FastDUCT drives production and exports match your shop or estimating format.

Chilled water, hot water, condenser water, steam, and process piping in LF with fitting counts by type. Valve EA, specialty items, and insulation LF are included per system. Pipe material and size are noted on each line for vendor RFQ.

Most standard packages deliver within 24 to 48 hours after quote approval. Share your bid date upfront for expedited scheduling when the calendar requires it.

Your assigned lead estimator is available by email or phone throughout production. We confirm equipment schedule versions, insulation spec sections, and routing assumptions before quantities are finalized.
